2027 Ogun East Senatorial Elections And The Issues Ahead

The name Ogun State was coined after the Ogun River 1976 having twenty Local Government Areas with three Senatorial Districts; namely Ogun West, Ogun Central and Ogun East.
The constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria gives certain power to the Senators which include,  legislative responsibilities among other functions which will enhance radical transformation in all the senatorial district of the country.
For the purpose of this write up, a search light will be beamed on Ogun East Senatorial District in respect of the up coming 2027 Senatorial election.
Late Pa Abraham Adesanya was the pioneer Senator for Ogun East Senatorial District, followed by Senator Jubril Martins Kuye from Ago-Iwoye in Ijebu North Local Government Area of the Senatorial District , there was little military intersession in the country between 1993-1999 after which Senator Olatokunbo Ogunbanjo emerged for the Senator.

He  was succeeded in office by Senator Lekan Mustapha other Senators from Ijebu North Local Government included, Senator Buruji Kashamu, Senator Gbenga Kaka before Otunba Gbenga Daniel stressed the need for a balance of power in Ogun East Senatorial district and this gave the former Governor the privilege to serve the people in the senate using his wealth of experience in the private sector to attract Federal Government presence to the his people.
Events have showed in the last few months that there is a cool war between the serving Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun and his Excellency Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel on who will emerge as the next Senator in 2027. if God gives us all the grace to witness 2027 in good health.
To start with his Excellency Otunba Gbenga Daniel will be celebrating 70th birthday anniversary on April 2026 and he started his career as a young engineer in Lagos while  working with several companies before he establish Kresta Laurel PLC  a company that has competed with others globally in the area of lift management, design among other key areas.

Engr. Daniel joined active politics in 1999 Alliance for Democracy (AD) to be précised and contested as Governor in 2003 served the people of the state for eight years, making critical impact in the area of infrastructural development and investment drive to the state.
It is on record that Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Prince Dapo Abiodun and Otunba Gbanga Daniel are good friends in the private sector, while Senator Amosun was a chartered Accountant, Otunba Gbenga Daniel is a season Engineer in the construction sector and Prince Dapo Abiodun is a force to be reckoned with in the oil and Gas sector,  having six cargoes ship for the distribution of petroleum product in the country but it is very sad to note that politics have created bottlenecks within the three good friends.

When three elephant fight the grass will suffer, the irregularities  between the three power brokers in the state had adverse effect on the people as they were unable to synergies on a common platform to chart a way forward as regards the development of the state.
What are the issues on ground, as Senator Gbenga Daniel is determined to contest for a second term in office while Price Dapo Abiodun is also interested in the Senate.
Considering their determinations, the electorates have to make their choice as  regards to who will govern them, having consider the pedigree of the candidates that would be presented by political parties during the election.
Prince Dapo Abiodun was the Chief Executive Officer, Heyden PLC , a multinational company that specialises in the importation, distribution and sales of petroleum product. He contested for Senate in 1991 but lost to Senator Kuye in 2014. He tried his best to emerge for the Senate but lost to Prince Buruji Kashamu.
Prince Dapo Abiodun was very determined to served his people and believes that God's time is the best,  he did not lose hope but re-contested in 2019 and emerged as the Governor of the Gateway state and since then he has tried  his best to position the state as the industrial hub  of the Nigerian economy.
A question in the heart of the people of the Ogun East Senatorial District is, who will  represent them at the Red Chambers in 2027, to this end all hands must be on deck to ensure that the people do not suffer as result of the power tussle  between the power brokers in the state.
The APC at the National level has been silent as regards the issues affecting the party in the state and their neutrality should not be allowed to degenerate into a state of anarchy before critical steps are taken.

Traditional rulers among others stakeholders in the state are of the opinion that president Tinubu should appoint three man committee to invite the two parties to a round table discussion towards resolving the political crisis in good record time. They should also understand that, in an atmosphere of disunity,  no developmental projects can be achieved and that their cooperation will further  promote industrial and  national development.
However power tussle will never bring about development in the state but a strategy of destruction on the ladder of monumental growth.
Considering the on going political scenario, time will tell who will be the next Senator to  represent Ogun East Senatorial district in 2027.
